kullen and the chin

saturday started out like a normal day … spent majority of it at the pool and then packed up and headed to hang with some friends! it was a "ladies night" but some of kullen's friends were going to be there so i decided to bring him and rhys along! 

they wanted to get into the hot tub and although i didn't bring their bathing suits, i told them they could go in their undies. the people next-door even did some fireworks.

see, what happened after that first picture is kullen decided to do a backwards somersault and somehow hit his chin on the bottom step. 

he didn't panic so i didn't really either. until i saw this. 

i knew it was going to have to be stitched. so, i called my husband to see if he wanted me to take him right away or meet him (to drop rhys off versus taking him to the ER). we decided that i would meet him at our local ER. 

this isn't the worse part of the story though. 

as i'm driving to meet my husband, i get into a "fender bender". 

i was stopped at a red light which had turned green. as i took my foot off the break,  i thought i heard kullen say something so i glanced back and BAM, right into the car in front of me. i was barely going 5mph so there was hardly damaged but still. 

after explaining to the kid to hurry and give me his info/call the cops/whatever he wanted to do because i was trying to get my kid to the ER, i still had to wait a little bit for all that accident nonsense. 

i finally made it to the hospital around 10:00 and sign in. the ER is packed. 

around midnight - we make it back to triage where i explained what happened. we asked if they were going to stitch it right away since it had happened a few hours ago and the nurse said she wasn't sure and that we'd have to wait to see the doctor and he would make the call. 

fast forward 2hrs … 2:00am and we're all half asleep and super cranky. i asked my husband to check in with the front desk to see if he could tell us anything. 

after talking to the guy for a bit, adam came back explaining that there were still 13 people ahead of us and by the time we would be seen, it would be too late to stitch him up. so, we decided to leave.

as you can see, he probably reaaaaally needed stitches. we're doing our best to keep it clean and closed and actually it seems to be improving somewhat.

we're lucky that we have a (scheduled) doctors visit tomorrow so that i can have his doctor check him out and make sure we're doing the right things for it. 

so, at 5 years old - kullen escaped stitches (by the hair of his chiny chin chin.) har. har. har! 

freebie friday!

did you know that July 11 was a very cool day!

not only was it Cow Appreciation day at Chick-Fil-A 

BUT

because it was 7/11 - 711 was giving away free slurpee's!

so, the kids and i glued some fabric spots on some old (as you can tell from rhys' beings super small!) white shirts, colored our noses and away we went for our free lunch!

if you dress in full garb (like us) - you get an entire meal for free! 

if you just do a nose or hat or something, it's a free entree. 

regardless - it's totally worth it.

after our free lunch, we hopped over to 711 for our free slurpee's! 

i'm not sure if rhys' has ever had one, but he (of course) loved it. 

and kullen opted for the Coca-Cola flavor and promptly declared:

I REALLY LIKE THESE SLURP THINGS! 

… and then, 

we went back to chick-fil-a for dinner.

The Smithsonian's National Zoo

if you've ever been to Washington DC, you know we have an amazing Zoo!

i consider myself, and my children, to be pretty lucky to have it. we try to visit it at least once a summer - but usually more! 

it's free to get in and i would suggest you take the metro because parking it steep! 

[although, with three kids and all the equipment that goes with that .. i drive!]

we got there fairly early so got to see all the pandas! even baby Bao-Bao!

& my kids got a special face painting treat! ;)

this Orangutan is awesome! he gets to walk the lines during the day and decide where to hang out and sleep. he has a "room" in his "house and also one with the Great Apes! 

a bear with a bear [and rhys..] HAHA!

the zoo has a new splash pad area by the sealions - it was PERFECT on this hot day!

every 30 or so seconds, a gush of water comes from underneath that big rock as well. 

my kids were basically in heaven!

we even strolled up to the elephant area right on time for a demo! the kids loved it!

it was a great day to be visiting the National Zoo!

local 4th of july fun!

the town over from us, La Plata, held a Fourth of July Watermelon Bash this year. it was free (including water, hotdogs & ice cream!) and had lots of water slide bounces, splash pads and even a fire truck spraying the kids! my kids had a BLAST! kullen really had a blast because his little bestie Richard was there! 
they literally played and laughed ALL day long! 
i hope they do it again next year! if you're local, it's definitely a fun-filled day for kids of all ages!

weekend recap!

what an amazing weekend! 

we were so busy but it was SO good!!! there are so many things i wish i had taken pictures of but i'm so bad about pictures, i get caught up in moments and just enjoying them sometimes (meaning, i don't have my phone in hand!) and sometimes that's a bad thing!

anyway - we spent wednesday, thursday and friday at the pool. wednesday our pool and a friends house after,  thursday at a friends house with tons of friends/babies and friday at our pool with mandee and ronin!

we may have spent too much time at the pool when kullen face is almost the same color as a target car and the 2 year old is voluntarily napping in a pool chair! ;)

saturday - hubby and i got up early and went to our local baseball stadium for the Hit & Run 5k! it was a blast, tough, but a blast!

after that, we headed to our friends sons 4th birthday party! it was so cute - goldfish themed! 

kullen even got to ride a 4wheeler!

sunday morning was my friend katie's baby shower! such a cute nautical themed shower down by the water! can't wait to meet baby matthew! 

after the shower, i came back home and prepared for an afternoon date with my hub! 

we had a new babysitter come to the house and she was just great with the kids. it's basically the first time an almost stranger has watched our boys! we thought it would be nice to have someone else 'on call' just in case our family is sick of us asking ;) 

and in true maryland form - what did we do on our date? had crabs! :D
