big man! pt 3

well, it's our third night of kullen in his big boy room/bed

things are getting better and better each night!

last night - we were slightly thrown off, but in a good way.

kullen hung out with us, in our room/bed until 9pm

[until after big brother!]

once it was over, we asked him if he wanted to go in his room

and read a story or two.

he quickly obliged! 

he picked two books but of course, pulled a kullen

and didn't let me finish reading them

so i put the books away and told him it was time for sleep.

we turned the light off and he cried for a minute

but within 10 minutes, he was out!

our shortest time yet!

around 3:30

-which seems to be the every night wake-up time-

he began to cry and whine so i went in and laid with him.

i, of course, fell asleep and was woken up to adam opening the door around 4:20

big dummy [lybabe] didn't turn the hallway light off

so kullen awoke too

AND

did.not.go.back.to.sleep!

UGH.

so, aside from being up almost an hour before i had to be

and trying to fight with kullen to go back to bed

this transition is going better than i thought.

this weekend we will be putting the TV in his room

and letting him watch a movie before bed.

i figure it's best to try it out on a weekend

in case he's up for hours watching tv and/or playing in his room.

but, let me just say

i doubt it will go over well

him being alone in his room, i mean. 

something else BIG regarding kullen and sleep

he has gone without his ninny since sleeping in his bed!

there has been one IN his bed

but every time i go in there, it's either in his hand or on the bed somewhere

never in his mouth.

and this morning when he was awake and i was fighting to get him back to sleep

he did cry for ninny

but i didn't give it to him!

i am not taking it away from him totally, just yet

but we are starting with baby steps

and i think it's going well!

now

if we could just get the boy potty trained!

big man! pt 2

another successful night in the poag house :)

although mama is still SUPER tired - i was only up twice with kullen

and one of them was unnecessary!

i was woken up around 1:00am to a crying boy

i jumped up and went to his room ...

only to find him sound asleep in his bed!

he must have did one of those 'cry in my sleep' bits 

and just fell back asleep super quick!

so back to bed mama went!

around 3:30am - i heard 'mama?' coming through the monitor

i went into his room to find him at the end of his bed, about ready to get down!

[he was gonna come find hims mama! haha]

i crawled in his bed and he crawled back up to the pillows and went right back to sleep!

it was easy as pie, really!

the hardest part of it all is getting him to sleep. 

we don't want to shock/scare/ruin him by leaving him in there alone

so the hub and i both decided we'd go in there with him until he falls asleep

at least for a little bit

once he is comfortable with sleeping through the night in his bed

we will work on the other. 

[backwards? what do you guys think?!]

we let him hang out with us until it's 'bed time'

which is usually between 8-8:30

we go in his room, get him dressed and tell him to pick a few books

we 'read' said books and once we're through - it's lights out time.

both nights he has cried but last night was much shorter/tamer than the previous

it only took him around 20 minutes to fall asleep 

and for us to sneak out, back into our room!

i'm curious to see how tonight goes 

as i must be in front of a TV at 8:00pm for big brother!

do i dare let daddy attempt the bed time routine alone?

[i'm sure i'd hear the mama screams through sound-proof walls]

or do i keep him up until 9:00pm when big brother is over?

or do i risk it and do our normal routine and let tivo capture big brother

and just stay up later than normal to watch?!

i feel selfish even typing that. :/

kid comes first and i know that

and all of this is my own fault for not starting this sooner.

who waits until a kid is over 2 yrs old to 'sleep train'?

this girl. 

we'll see how it goes.

i think we're definitely going to try the TV out here soon. 

it will either go well and he'll be content laying in there watching a movie

or it'll keep him up and he'll think it's okay to get down from his bed

and play with his toys/books/etc ...

big man!

for the first time in months 

[well, since his first seizure in February to be exact]

our big boy slept in his own room last night

in his new big boy digs!

we decided to give him our old [queen sized] bed

and add some new furniture 

to give him more of a 'big boy' room!

as it was all coming together, i kept telling him that this was HIS room!

so, last night was the big night.

we all three went into his room last night around 8:30

we got him dressed in his PJ's and told him to pick some books from his [new] book case!

he picked about four and brought them to me to read. 

we 'read' them

[kullen likes to close the book after a new pages and say 'all done!']

after we were done with the last book, i told him it was time to go to sleep 

and turned off his light.

he, of course, was not happy and kept pointing towards the door

[pretty sure he wanted to go in my bed]

but we just kept telling him that we were sleeping in HIS room tonight!

finally, he settled and laid in between us - still rambling a bit 

then he crawled over me so he was next to the bed rail and curled into my neck and fell asleep!

adam snuck out of the room and i followed a few minutes later!

it only took an hour, start to finish!

he slept straight until around 2:30

when i heard him say 'mamaaaa?' and begin to wimper.

i went in his room and laid down with him again, he immediately went back to sleep!

i, again, snuck out but was awoken again about 3:30ish.

i was so tired but luckily remembered to grab my phone [aka alarm clock]

and the next thing i knew, it was 5am and time for me to get up.

i left him sleeping and went to get ready for work!

i know some of you are probably thinking

'this girl is crazy!'

BUT

this is progress for us! 

it wasn't easy for any of us really

we i still have a fear of SIDS or seizures 

but i know with rhys coming SOON that mr. kullen needs to be in his own room

so he isn't awoken by a crying newborn

and then i'm not struggling to get two kids back to sleep!

i am hoping that it continues to get better from here!

we have the fish tank in his room

just need to add water and then fish - and i think that will be nice for him to have

we're also contemplating putting a small TV on his dresser

so he can watch a movie before bed/falling asleep.

he has gotten so used to falling asleep in our bed, while watching TV

part of me thinks it will help him get over the fear of being alone.

parents? whatcha think? 

is a tv for a 2yr old not a good idea?

i'd love some opinions!
