freebie friday!

did you know that July 11 was a very cool day!
not only was it Cow Appreciation day at Chick-Fil-A
BUT
because it was 7/11 - 711 was giving away free slurpee's!

so, the kids and i glued some fabric spots on some old (as you can tell from rhys' beings super small!) white shirts, colored our noses and away we went for our free lunch!
if you dress in full garb (like us) - you get an entire meal for free!
if you just do a nose or hat or something, it's a free entree.
regardless - it's totally worth it.
Chick-Fil-A rocks our socks over at the poags!

after our free lunch, we hopped over to 711 for our free slurpee's!
i'm not sure if rhys' has ever had one, but he (of course) loved it.
and kullen opted for the Coca-Cola flavor and promptly declared:
I REALLY LIKE THESE SLURP THINGS!

… and then,
we went back to chick-fil-a for dinner.
HA!

take me out to the ballgame

would you have guessed that i'm a baseball fan?
oh yeah - i've got #NATITUDE
it's true - baseball is another sport that i enjoy watching but not playing. [because, fun fact: i chipped a tooth playing softball in middle school]
and living in Maryland gives me lots of options for baseball.
the Washington Nationals are our go-to team for baseball!
we got to the stadium early so the boys could go down near the dugout and attempt to get signatures [it didn't happen but we got to 'holler' at some of the guys!]
typically we would ride the metro but since we had the baby we decided it might be best to drive into the city.
the Washington Nationals became a team in 2005. i still remember this!
they played at RFK Stadium from 2005-2008.
this gorgeous Nationals Park took two years to build (2006-2008) and the Nats finally settled into their new home on March 29, 2008 where they defeated the Baltimore Orioles 3-0.
here in the DC area - we call those games "Battles of the Beltway"  and they are always a huge turnout!
kullen was so happy to attend a game on his 5th birthday!!
and so was rhys! ;)
not to mention, we had amazing seats!
my boys needed to get up and walk around only a few times so when that happened, we got drinks and food!
but, if you don't feel like getting up and fighting the crowd - you can connect to the Nationals Park free wifi and visit the Mobile Ordering site and have food delivered directly to you!
the only person to get bored during the game. ;)
if you follow me on instagram, you already saw a lot of these pictures.
you could hashtag myNLeast to be featured on the big screen at the park so i took full advantage!
and even though we lost to the Atlanta Braves, it was an excellent game.
If you live around the DC area, i highly suggest attending a game.
the park is beautiful, the food is great, the beer is cold and the atmosphere just screams
"TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALLGAME!"

medieval times - baltimore

on sunday, the boys and i spent the day shopping. that evening, we headed over to the Medieval Times castle for dinner and a show!

as soon as we entered the castle, we were crowned with the color of the knight we were to cheer for - BLUE! they reccomend getting to the show up to 75 minutes early! don't worry if you can't though - seating is done by color/number and in a very orderly fashion!
arriving early allows you to take pictures with the king, browse at all the items for sale (swords, shields, knives, trinkets ..], grab a drink from the royal bar and enjoy seeing some getting knighted by the king!

once in your seat, the server comes around and explains the show. asks you to raise your hands and says 'you just met your silverware!'. that's right - you eat with your hands. talk about two poag boys being super happy! [don't worry parents, after the feat they give you a big wet wipe to clean up with]!

the bill of fare:
[as you can see, the portions are HUGE. the chicken takes up nearly half of the standard size dinner plate!]
it also comes with your choice of water, pepsi or tea! a bar wench comes around during the show to ask if you want anything from the royal bar as well.

there is also a vegetarian option for those who do not eat meat. it includes: tomato bisque soup, garlic bread, large Portobello mushroom cap stuffed with whole grain, rice and bean blend, large skewer of roasted vegetables, hummus with pita chips and pastry. If you want the vegetarian plate, you need to let your server know ahead of time.

the show was definitely entertaining! my kids LOVED screaming for our knight and watching the horses. there is even a falcon that flies around above your head during one part of the show! [funny note: during our show, the falcon flew around a couple times and then flew up and sat on a rafter. after about a minute or two of nobody really knowing what was happening - including the Royal Falconer who just stood there - the falcon pooped and then flew back down into the arena! it gave everyone a good laugh!]

the plot of the show isn't hard to follow at all. my four year old knew exactly what was going on - my two year old? eh, he just kept screaming "GO BLUE KNIGHT!!". we see plenty of horses tricks and the knights even attempt some tricks of their own - gavel throwing, flag tossing and trying to get a ring off a hook with their swords.
the knights battle it out to see who the last knight standing is. that one then duels the bad guy till the finish!

the announcer does such a good job of keeping the crowd entertained and making sure we're screaming for our sides! i would highly recommend everyone [especially those with boys] go at least once in their lifetime!
the dueling action is so amazing too. they are so well choreographed! and every now and then sparks will fly when the two swords cling together. my boys especially loved that!
our knight was almost last one standing! he put up a great fight!
it's a little pricey but you are getting a delicious and HUGE dinner in addition to a show and not to mention memories that will last a lifetime!
[bear - good thing for loud brothers - he can sleep through anything!]

Medieval Times - Baltimore is current offering a BOGO special now through April 27. So whether you want to reward your kids for good report cards or just celebrate our ONE day of spring break [ha, my Marylander's know what i'm talking about] - now is definitely the time to take advantage!

HUGE thank you to Medieval Times - Baltimore for the amazing seats.
disclaimer: i received complimentary tickets from Medieval Times - Baltimore in exchange for my blog review. all opinions expressed are my own.
